The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences was awarded up to $100,000 for its project, Inflammation & Agony: Closing the Pain Gap in Hidradenitis Suppurativa. This initiative is a multidisciplinary educational initiative that pairs expert clinical training with direct patient partnership to address the underrecognized problem of chronic, often persistent pain in hidradenitis suppurativa, producing enduring resources like videos, toolkits, and communication guides for both providers and patients. Its goal is to improve pain assessment, multimodal treatment, and patient-provider communication—co-creating better pain care with patients rather than simply for them.

The Association of Hidradenitis Suppurativa and Inflammatory Diseases was awarded up to $35,000 for its project, EASE-HS: Early Awareness and Symptom Education for Hidradenitis Suppurativa. This project will deliver a brief, accessible lesson that teaches young people to recognize the early signs of hidradenitis suppurativa, understand its true inflammatory cause, and seek timely care before permanent scarring occurs. Designed to be low burden and easy for schools and community organizations to adopt, the lesson will be refined into a reusable kit that can help bring it to students across the country.

The 2025 recipients were selected as their projects embodied the core mission of the Incyte Ingenuity Awards in HS. The selected projects offered unwavering commitment to addressing the specific needs of those impacted by HS through a thoughtful, creative and original approach.

We look forward to seeing these innovative proposals come to fruition and the positive impact they will have on the HS community.
